Hi ,

I am looking at either the VU+ Solo2 or Duo 2 . I have a couple of questions.

1. The only issue I have with the solo 2 is the 2.5".Can you fit a 3.5" sata drive even external as I have all 3.5" drives or is the only option to go for the Duo2 .

Down side is always the additional cost's for the 2.5 " drives.

2. Does the terrestrial tuner in the Duo2 work well for HD channels BBCHD and ITV HD and is it sensitive?

I would be looking at a genuine box not a clone.

Cheers

i am pretty sure you can use a 2.5 and a 3.5 hard disk in the solo 2

the FTA HD channels are fine if you can afford the duo2 then get that.

Hi mate

Ive got the duo2 but if you don't need the extra tuner slot then go with the solo2, ive been very disappointed with the front display's on the duo2 so with those aside the duo2 has more ram and a extra tuner slot. The solo2 is a good bit of kit for the money.

There is no DVB-T2 tuner for the VU+ range so no you wont get terrestrial HD channels.

if you go for the solo2 make sure you purchase from a reputable satellite shop as the clones have now started to hit the market, dont get burnt. :thum:

Thanks for the comments .

Does the extra ram make any different with the images or does this just mean I will be limited with plug-ins?

The clone issue is a mine-field and so many on fle-bay stating genuine. Any recommended suppliers ?

All my previous sat purchases were with well know companies now all gone which is a shame.

Whats the issue with the front display ?

There is plenty of space for plugins on the solo2 more than enough.

This forums sponsor stocks the VU+ range use them and you'll not get burnt.

There are 2 the colour display is a slug slow unresponsive and you need serious time to make it look good with the lcd4linux plugin and the VFD display is simply well a VFD is well just that and no where near as good as the one on the duo. Why they put 2 displays on is beyond me looks tacky.

Had a look at the forums sponsor site and they do not have VU+ listed?

Looks like a back ward step on the display front from the older model.

Hi Amnesix1,

I was looking if is possible to install a 3.5" drive external as Solo2 does not have e-sata and as you say you can only install a 2.5" internal .

Looking at options to use a 3.5 drive.

You can only use an external 3.5" with a Solo2. Internally, as has been said you can't use a 3.5" drive, only 2.5".

What 3.5" external drive can be used or recommended for use. I assume these will be USB drives?

Best to use one that is externally powered, these work better.
