New RSI Image based on OpenPLI, named OpenRSI

Be carefully. These images all are separated in kernel and images. Keep in mind that the image comes without a kernel.
If you need to install the kernel as well if you did not do that already. You do not need the kernel if you already used previous E2 images.

There probably will still be some bugs, but the foundation of a solid image is there, and we are proud saying it.

On this site you always can find the new images. Nearly every day a new image will appear.

Find in Google: openrsi.rsi-images and go to "downloads"

Mind you, this only looks good so far - everything is crashing E2, from YouTube, to Valerie Project, Porn plugin - everything...

Lots and lots of work needed for this, that's for sure...

It doesn't reboot once the latest AZUp is finished flashing the USB stick... Remote reboot...

During the reboot it's in "RESCUE MODE?" forever and ever...

Unlike Koala, this one actually does start and shows the bootlogo - alas, stuck on "Staring RSI" for a veeeeeryyyy long time....

Finally, after a couple of minutes or more, the cogs turning...movement - it's alive...

Let's see how well it is...

Handles the initial pre-setup much better than the original RTi or SPAZE! Fast and no loss of image as one is changing the parameters (HDMI, 1080p, 50 Hz and out...)!

Customize menu is the best/most comprehensive we've seen so far! Really good!

Subtitle settings are the best hitherto, of any image, too!

Auto Language Selection is superior, also!!!

Network Configuration is silky smooth. I have a problem with CIFS (NFS shares are great!) but it could be at my (laptop) end...

in the System we are missing Picon-path and EPG-path, to direct them to a USB device, for instance...

Testing the Media Player via the NFS mounts - one thing that doesn't function is the instant start. it starts twice, when you see it flicker. Don't know why but that could be improved, as in original image it doesn't do so.

At the moment I have no dish, so can only test general capabilities, plus streaming of all sorts (media from home network or internet)...

When I went to download various packages in SW management, to improve the image with various plugins, addons and whatnots - WOW! The best I've seen in any image!

However, I hope they improve on the actual functionality of those gems...

For instance, Valerie Project was crashing E2, so was Porn Plugin, as was YouTube.

But that was v. 13.3.2012 - and I can't test 14.3.2012 in all of those right now, as I must go out. This evening I will continue. Looks promising but... they have to prove it, I'm afraid, at every turn...

Good idea, overall and so far better than last night but I only scratched the surface... ;)

@gorski did you load the kernel first?

Look @ the download page the kernels are there for download.
Best practice is to load the kernel first and then the image.

Image needs the kernel to work OK the 20120314 version only have some small fixes against the 20120313.

The 20120312 version was the first image from OpenRSI wich allowed online update through menu, I updated mine through online update from 20120312--->20120313---->20120314 all through online update overhere all work OK

No, I didn't load the E2 kernel first, as I had the latest E2 in the flash (1.7.0), for my last test...

I will do the rest of my tests when I put my kid to sleep... ;)

You need the kernel from OpenRSI download page if you want the OpenRSI image to work good

If you don't load the kernel from OpenRSI download the image will become slow responsive and will give green screens.

The image won't work good with any other kernel, only the one from OpenRSI download page.

So best practice is to load kernel first then image

So I did, with the first image I tested (12.3) and sure as hell I got loadsa green screens... :(

This time I did not and I got better results so far... Well, whaddya know... :D

The first one I flashed into the receiver and USB stick for the 2nd.

Did the team modify the kernel significantly and how so, if you know?

I just saw on OpenPLi forum that The_Ripper himself is behind the OpenPLi on AZ HD. So, I guess, he modified the kernel.

My question: if we send the kernel alone, we are sending it to the flash and we can not just send the thing in the USB stick.

Because, the kernel is on the flash it means we can not have other images in USB stick, as they will suffer from a kernel that is not made for them.

So, either we only have OpenPLi in AZ HD or we have many images to play with but no OpenRSI, right?

I'll tell you what I'm gonna do, since both Koala by SiF Team and OpenRSI are OpenPLi based images:

1) flash a USB stick with Koala image by SiF Team (that kernel is not going to do very well in AZbox HD, as it is shared by many images, i.e. it is not custom made for AZ HD, so....), then

2) flash the kernel from RSI only, into the flash/receiver itself, and then

3) programme the RSI image only into the flash/receiver.

That way I have two images to play with, since both are OpenPLi based, hopefully both will be functional and I can continue testing the OpenRSI images as they come along...

Maybe Koala will be able to function then, as it is not functional now, with the shared kernel for all the OpenPLi images?!?

A good idea or what?;) :D

Yes, it does look good but...

Green screens of death when trying to go into Info section or deleting a file in my NAS, for instance...

Endless cogs when trying to FF or RW an A-V file...

Etc. etc.

The "double start" of an A-V file is now gone!

That is with the kernel mentioned first, then the latest image in the flash.

It seems that the kernel on RSI website is a different one to the original RTi kernel...

If that is so...

Does anybody know are they going to support CI module for elite/premium model because Rti team is not interested in this?

thanks

I think not.
Because it is a simple assembly with their skins and servers.
And in fact exact same RTI.
