Afternoon All,

I've got a satlink ws9606 meter and had it many years. I always did find it hard to read the screen when outside but as i get older i am wondering if its time for something new. Can anyone recommend a new type meter with bigger digits and a nice screen. Its want to be about the same level quality as the ws9606. I think i paid something like £90.00 a long time ago.

Thanks @barney115

Looks like the gtmedia is in the same box as the sat link 6906. Thats the one i have but even in this picture the menus are small and hard to read.

I also have this Sat Meter and it is extremely difficult to read in Sunlight.

It also has a major flaw in that it won't show the correct readings for DVB-S2 transponder signals. It can't do unicable either.

It shows DVB-S1 fine, however it only shows a maximum signal strength of 15/16/17 for the DVB-S2s. This was one
of my reasons for acquiring a second sat meter, as I was finding that I couldn't zero in and fine tune any of the transponders
using DVB-S2.

Seen it on a chinese site for a decent price. I know when looking yesterday there are models that can do sky q as well.

There is also the "GTMedia V8 Finder 2" on E...b...a...y as well as the rainforest website. That one does DVB-S2, Unicable and wideband for Sky q.

It's varies between £70 - £90 depending on which site.

My trusty very old Satlook Micro+ luckily has no major Specs but one huge great thing is the Backlight
just a couple buttons and a knob to select options and the signal Beeper makes it very fast to align a dish
Still odd one 2nd hand one knocking about on the "Bay" for cheap .
always done the job for me screen very easy to read with backlight the Satlook Micro G2 is also bit basic but does the same job i have both ,
battery is only slight issue with satlook only lasts few hrs but gets a job done .

The Horizon Sat meter would be my 2nd preference as it is basic and very fast to lock and set a dish up with ,
the Primesat FS-700 DVB-s2 Mk2 professional satellite meter has a compass and not terrible but might suffer from Sun as the screen quite hard to see looks like .

I only ever really need a "signal meter" when messing with my own dishes (or for a couple of mates that physically cant do so themselves)
I use an E2 STB and mobile phone with "signal meter" type app, and TBH find it better than any of the cheapo "signal meters" i have tried.
The only downside of this STB / phone method is you need both to be connected to the same wifi network, not had an issue myself but some might if the dish is miles from the router.

Or if nobody in miles has WIFI OR Internet what would you do then ??
there is many homes i know of where there has never been and likely never will be internet
and even a mobile signal is next to impossible ....a cheapo "signal meter" would not help then ??
Glad i live in the Real world where internet outages are so very common and depending on WIFI is like believing in fairy tales .

i will gladly never risk depending on so many factors being available just to align a dish correctly .
No doubt in my mind that the sun blocking seeing the sat meter readings will for sure not be a factor in next couple of weeks
Since winter is just around the corner : )

Where the hell do you live man ? Its 2024.....you can get internet in Antarctica lol
Actually no internet is required. Nor a router... A mobile phone can also be a hot spot that a e2 STB can connect to.
If needs be, move the STB close to the dish, your mobile become your screen, and your remote to zap to sats.....
The actual desired benefit is that it has a bright screen that you can see in the sun.
Please dont tell me that everyone's still rocking a Nokia 3210 where you live ?? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Maybe @barney115 chooses to live way out the way where he may have loads of land for his big dishes and with great views and where the phone signals are inconsistant. :)

Perhaps so, but it is actually irrelevant. He fails to grasp a really basic concept,...... simply that a wifi connection can still work without the internet.
Anyways i will leave it at that, i was just saying that there is more than one way to skin a fish, good luck sorting your issue.

Ive done the same for a lot of years after an old labgear meter gave up the ghost, ive installed a fair number of dishes using the signal meter app.

Even fixed the odd shite pro install with it.

Often thought about one of the Chinese sat meters but i dont do enough to bother.
