Im tied between the vu and 500hd?

Hi everyone. Ive been saying im going to take the plunge and buy a new hd box but i was putting it off for the hd Technomate. Im starting to get fed-up with waiting for that so now im tied between the vu+ duo and the 500hd i was close to pressing the buy button for the vu but.

I done my 'homework' for ages now and this is what conerns me.

Vu+ duo:

1.People say the tuner isnt sensitive for fringe reception. This isnt a big problem but I always wanted to try and get Nilesat.

2. Its not a Dreambox but still quite expensive(less support)

3. The SD pic quality is iffy (auto resolution plugin helps)

4. Its a bit large (I like hiding my sat equipment from snoopy relatives)

The 500 HD:

1. Hasnt really been that popular because its expensive for what you get.

2. Its a Dreambox so support should be strong

3. Theres no usb (but that can be activated)

4. Single tuner

Basically my biggest concern is the Tuner on the VU+ duo. Can someone living in fringe reception areas of the UK compare the sq with the vu and other receivers? also is the box psu strong enough for a stab motor?

Somone on another forum even said the spiderbox had a super sensetive tuner and because of that i was even thinking of that as a cheap stop-gap receiver for hunting signals( I would have got this if it worked as a cccam 2.1.4 client but its not in the same league)

Im sorry to moan so much but its a lot of money for me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi mate

Go for the VU best bang for buck and so much hardware above the DM500HD

I can only compare The VU tuner to the 800HD tuner. Like for like no difference.

As for support it now has 4-5 teams on doing the images. The VU has only been out a short while.

The SD picture now with Dream Elite image is on par with my 800

Yes its a big old box but it has room for a normal sized HD the 500hd is external only. The VU has 3 USB and 2 card readers and 2 ci slots lol. It also has a Disply which shows you what going on Channel name etc. The 500hd does not.

Ive had most model DM's and im impressed with the VU. I don't think another DM is on the cards for me while VU is developing similar kit.

Good points mate. If I get the VU ill be putting it upstairs. I got the kind of family who would ask too many questions with a big old thing like that. They would end up asking for 'help' if you know what i mean. The more the word gets around the worse it will be.

One more point. Is the vu free from that annoying uk HD glitching that we get from the 800 clones?

Any more inputs????

It is very cheap mate when you compare it to a DM8000.

Ok that has 4 tuners! Who needs four?

Defenetely best box around, quality build made in South Korea instead of China, they did not spare on parts unlike DMM.

And regarding the tuner don't worry it actualy better, I crosstested it with my dreamboxes nad VU+ outperfoms them all.

These days with so much work on my head I really do not have time to watch in real time. Most of the time it is prerecorded . So for me it is enough even one tuner

To be honest I dont even watch any of my sat boxes all that much. I just enjoy channel hunting/messing about with linux. Its sort of a 'toy' for me.

If I want to watch tv its usually the subbed box lol
