Edison OS mio+ 4K & OSCAM

Hello,

I'm using an Edison OS mio+ 4K. I'm using OpenATV Distribution version 7.3 / Enigma2 version 7.3 .

The question I am about to ask may not be correctly worded so please correct me at once if I understand incorrectly!

I understand that a 'plugin' called OSCAM can be installed into my Edison STB and this will decrypt Powervu and Biss. Is this information correct?

If so, How do I go about installing this into the STB version I have? Is there a good instruction manual somewhere?

If the community could offer advice as to next steps that would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to understand how this all works.

Thank you!

PS-Is it so that a post of this kind may not be posted in the OSCAM section of the forum?

Atv image does not provide any softcam option in their plugins list to download. It was there on version 6.3, but now is removed !!!! You need to find a 3rd party plugin version to download it from. Another option is to use an xxx.ipk file type, to force the installation of oscam softcam. For future updates on oscam is a nightmare to update: you need to change the name of the cam in init.d file, etc...
but it can be done. I suggest to install & use TNAP5, witch has softcam menu in plugins menu to be installed.

@EnoSat - Thank you for helping me and offering guidance. I followed the instructions and was able to install the Softcam Packages. There seems to be 10 variants of 'Oscam' and I'm unsure which one to download. What advice can you offer? Some variants like 'oscam-emu-ipv4only' seems to suggest that this works with IPTV? Is that correct? I just want something that works with my Satellite. Thank you

works only with ip4 protocol, normal oscam works with both ip4 and ip6 protocol (none IPTV )

Just remember that every box has a CPU type, & based on this you choose the apropiate softcam to work on your box.
go to menu/information to find CPU type: in your case will be ARMv7. But to begin go here:
oscam, and download this file on your computer "enigma2-softcams-oscam-all-images_11.726-emu-r798-arm+mips_all.ipk". You also need a program in your computer, to communicate with the box files. I use the good old "Dreambox Control Center E2" (DCC-E2 in short) from here: DCC-E2
Set up the box name & enter ip address of the box. See the pm.

It seems that there are two different set of instructions being given by two people. I like EnoSat version as it was easy to follow and now I just need to decide which version on Oscam I need to install. Still don't know what to do here. Do I need version that can connect to server like oscam-icam (1.20+svn11718-r0) ???

ro_54 advice is unclear and complicated for me. In addition to downloading a file "enigma2-softcams-oscam-all-images_11.726-emu-r798-arm+mips_all.ipk" I also need a program in my computer to communicate with my STB, The program appears to be for Windows only which means I cannot use it as I use Linux

@EnoSat do any of the versions of Oscam found in the Softcam Packages support the Armv7 CPU type? This is the CPU I have.
Thank you to all that offered advice to help me. I appreciate your support!

Try "Filezilla" program. you need a program to communicate with your box & load the .ipk file, then you can execute it from the box menu. I'm not familiar with linux computers..

@EnoSat & @ro_54 Thank you guys for helping me. I really appreciate it.

@EnoSat When you say "The plugin only displays softcams for that CPU" I take that as a good thing but not sure. When I used the code you told me about above was my STB probed to render the right softcam files? I have to ask this as I'm not sure I may have understood you correctly. My question now is how do I choose the right plugin to install. I don't know what to do.
@ro_54 The method you are suggesting seems to be very problematic. First you need to find the file "enigma2-softcams-oscam-all-images_11.726-emu-r798-arm+mips_all.ipk". This means downloading each file on the page until the right one is found. Would be easier if downloads were labelled with the right names. Then you need a windows box to install. I don't have this. I can do Filezilla but I need to know the commands to install. Enosat seems to be offering an easier approach I just need to learn or be told which package is the one to download. This part I don't know until someone tells me....

when you execute enigma2-softcams-oscam-all-images_11.726-emu-r798-arm+mips_all.ipk, the file will install the proper oscam for actual image in use, except TNAP5. just make sure is for ARM type. You still need a software in you computer to upload this file in /var/volatile/temp folder from where you can install it from within the box.

@ro_54 I was able to install the file and the online screen said 'Restart Engima2GUI to activate the GUI. I did that but when I go to Menu->Setup->Decryption->Softcam Settings-> I only see Restart on the left and Restart softcam on the right. Is this the right place to be in?

I do not know about "the online screen said" ?
in the box, you should go in main menu/softcam / ci from where you can restart you oscam.

This is a bit difficult for me because I don't know exactly or specifically what I should see.

For example; above I said: "when I go to Menu->Setup->Decryption->Softcam Settings-> I only see Restart on the left (margin) and Restart softcam on the right (margin). Is this the right place to be in?"

You said "you should go in main menu/softcam / ci from where you can restart you oscam."

MY question is are we talking about same place? You use word OSCAM I see in menu 'Restart Softcam' Are these the same things???

I also push the yellow restart button. What is suppose to happen exactly?

ok i'm in this image now: click on sofcam settings; then you'll see what softcam have installed in "select softcam" line. What does it say on the right ?
it should list "oscam-11726-arm-emu" on the right. if it is press the green button.
