Why is the mention of oscam a bad thing? As I understand it its the card used in Europe to watch paid for programming and in use You guys don't have this tech.

oscam is a software to decrypt powervu encryption system. not legal!!!!
EU is mostly using a paid card sharing, using cccam software. not sure if legal or not.

But biss is lunching a new system Biss2. Powervu is inplementig an elevated version: powervu+.

Thank you for that piece of advice! The strange thing is that it appears I can’t even send messages. There’s no feature in my account for this. I also looked to activate notifications and even this option is missing in my account. Typically you would find these options you take them on and then you can start getting emails that somebody sent you a message but here I am I’m not seeing any of that, it’s very very weird

And why Lyngsat shows different information than what your receiver displays. Simple frequency conversion with simple arithemetic dude.

I will give you credit for bringing up the fact that on LegitFta I asked a very simple question about why I receive four channels on satellite 77 West as being listed as 'L' polarized? According to tvrosat these four channels are being broadcast with 'L' polarization yet I received them. I even provided to the forum a screenshot showing this. Now although I'm not an expert in satellite I would like to learn why this is happening. If you were a bit more truthful in your depiction of what occured you would see that the question went unanswered and the thread closed because the Admin has a bad temper. As a matter of fact, What I was told and you can see it in black and white was that "The tvrosat dude that does the charts is in Canada so he has no direct access to that satellite". More fake news? Blanket statements with no supporting evicence hold no water. And Canadians can get 77W! I think when you tell a story you should put more truth on the bones and not make a story into something where you blantly attempt to tarnish a person's reputation with lies and falsehoods. Find yourself a new putz!

I am the person who was almost like you when first getting into this hobby. Full of questions and eager to learn. Perhaps you could list the satellite you currently do have. I believe that you have something operating as you have stated a few reception scenarios. But have what we call a "chinabox" receiver that is not a Linux Enigma 2 receiver. So perhaps you would like to at least that.

Why would you think that El Bandido created the TNAP receiver "image" that works as best as it can to make the Edision Os Mio receivers the best choice for the USA continent?
He spent countless hours finding the right snippets of what it takes for something like TNAP (which is actually deep down a very modified version of OpenPLI) to perform the best for the USA FTA satellite reception situation.
And as in a question you asked. Has taken the ability to install a Softcam such as oscam. Softcam stands for Software Conditional Access Module. It is a software based method of what would be the card you used to have to insert in a Dish Network and DirecTV receiver. Did you go the the satscams website? It 100% would solve your question as to why a softcam in the USA would be such a "bad word".

Sit your ass down. I want to convey the answer to your question in the best way there is to do it.
You CAN receive L & R polarized satellite transponders on a low noise block downconverter designed to receive H & V transponders.
L & R pertains to how a transponder beams its signal back down to earth for the ground station to receive it. In your case your satellite antenna and in to the house.


Most FTA reception for C Band and Ku band in the USA will be linear polarized.
It is illistrated here:

Why is polarization important? A understanding of wave polarization in VSAT is essential. Firstly, if we don’t transmit a polarized wave, we will waste signal power. That would make the satellite link inefficient, reduce its capacity and increase cost.

That is how you are currently setup. With a few exceptions way out east in the satellite arc like you stated and around 40W. In satellite charts you will see H & V polarization.

Dish Network uses circular polarization. Think of it as the signals coming down from the satellites in a big, stretched out Slinky. With the coils of the radio frequencies being wound in a left and in a right direction. Illustrated in the link above shown further down the page.

Now. IF you receive circular polarized transponders with your linear polarized low noise block amplifier. They will always seem weaker than linear polarized polarized transponders.
When in fact they are very strong. So strong that dish, direc, only needs small dishes as opposed to the 1 meter, 3 foot minimum we need to receive ku band satellites.

In my C band setup with a linear LNBF. Which I bought from Titanium. There is a piece of teflon that is sized to slip into grooves inside of the lnbf throat.
Your ku band lnbf is weather sealed with the plastic cap. Ku band does not like moisture or rain.

The teflon is commonly referred to as a Dielectric Slab. The proper name for it is Depolarizer.
I was scanning and logging satellites and transponders one very clear night. And I got over to some circular L & R satellite transponders. I scanned them when I found a signal.
Weak signals. I got a few transponders. And a few channels to watch.
I never used the depolarizer.

I went out to the dish and slipped mine inside of the lnbf throat. With my signal finder phone app working.
What was a barely receivable 9 dB signal suddenly went up to 14.5 dB.
I went back inside and rescanned the satellite and I got every single transponder that was listed in the charts and a few more.

But moving my dish back to a linear satellite. I got no signal or barely a signal at all.
So. If you look at the illistrations.
The depolarizer "chops off" 1/2 of the circle to make it appear to the lnbf as a linear transponder.
The position the depolarizer has to be inside of the feed throat obliterates the linear signals entering it.
And is further explained why you have a skew adjustment. So the vertical and horizontal waves enter the feedhorn throat at the exact orientation to hit the tiny antenna probes inside of it.
Need more info. to explain L & R and H & V transponders.

Satbeams. And the transponder charts on TVRO have a clickable link that show footprints for different transponders. Dishnet and direc use "spot beams".
A guy in Denver can get the Buffalo game. But a guy in Buffalo cant' get the Buffalo game. Some of it has to do with your subscription and blackouts.
They selectively can turn off the decryption for subscribers in different locations.
Or it could be due to the fact that a trasnponder is shooting a beam to the Denver area and another shooting a beam to the Buffalo area. With the same frequency parameters.
People in campers can drive to a blackout area and watch the game that is blaked out in their home city. Of sorts.

I would like to say. If you take my input as insults. You;re in a niche area. It's a hobby in the USA as opposed to a business in the other areas I mentioned at the beginning.
People in Britain have to pay the government just to have any equipment able to receive TV.
They have subscription cards they pay for to watch certain programming packages.
Here whe have dishnet and direc and perhaps bell in Canada. The FTA end of it all is for commercial usage by cable companies. Perhaps not as much for the crappy ku band programming. But once you enter c band, it's a different animal.

Listen up, I will tell you this once, the Edision MIO, and the Octagon SF8008 will both work in the USA for multi satellite reception in both C-Band and Ku-Band.
Both receivers can be enhanced from their shipped state to accept oscam which will assist in viewing encrypted channels.

How do I know this, simple, I have tested both receivers on USA satellites.
Personally, I found the Octagon SF8008 to be the better receiver, especially when running an OpenATV image.

As for the Edision Mini, if it is just a scaled back version of the MIO with a single tuner and smaller case then there is no reason why it will not perform the same.
It is up to you to go and do your research if you want further information. I do not plan to add any further comment.
