connect to my dmbox at home

hi , would be great if anyone could give some advice if it can or cannot be done thanks.

my friend is looking to connect to his dm800 box at home whilst hes abroad ..can this be done .

all i can say at this moment was i thinkl firstly you need a dns account i think ..if this correct.

im not 100per cent sure .

can he connect using dns to his port forward router .

yes you are totally correct, first thing required is a free DNS
address, use dDYN DNS as they have good basic free account.
setup port forwarding to a fixed IP on the dreambox.
depending on what he wants to do on the dreambox will determine what program he will require to connect to it.

You need a dns account as stated.

In your router you will need to open ports on the IP of your dreambox.

For instance ports 21,23 and 16001.

brill guys ..i think he just wants to view chanels and change them over ..

has he got to open ports like 16001.

has this got to be writen in cfg file like .

not to show just remeber things like webinfo ,etc.thanks again

so say if he was abroad .all he would have to do is in adressbar . put in his dns and port which he opened on his router which is linked to the ip adress of the dm box ..then search and he will be promted with a user and pass..is this correct ..
