(One after the other) 100 pessimists write one sentence each on a sheet of paper.

The first wites: "Exactly one sentence on this page is false."
The next person adds the line: "Exactly two sentences on this page are false."
The third writes: "Exactly three ..."
.....
and so on until the onehundedth writes: "Exactly 100 sentences on this page are false."

Now, that there are 100 sentences on that sheet of paper,
which sentence(s) is (are) correct and which false?

hint: each of the 100 sentences contradicts all the other sentences on that page. So, how many sentences can be correct?

Sorry, it´s the opposite way.
99 sentences are wrong.
Only one of the 100 sentences on that page can be true, because all sentences maintain s.th. different.

so only sentence number ? is correct.

Sorry:mecry:, but wrong.

I quote myself (from original post #164 with riddle)
...
The first wites: "Exactly one sentence on this page is false."
The next person adds the line: "Exactly two sentences on this page are false."
The third writes: "Exactly three ..."
.....
and so on until the onehundedth writes: "Exactly 100 sentences on this page are false.
"

_______

I solve:
_______

If sentence #1 was correct, this would mean: ""Exactly (only) one sentence on this page is false." or vice versa "Exactly all other 99 remaining sentences must be true. But 99 sentences contradicting each other can´t be true at the same time.

If only sentence #2 was correct, this would mean: "Exactly 98 sentences must be true".
If only sentence #3 was correct, this would mean: "Exactly 97 sentences must be true".
...
If only sentence #24 was correct, this would mean: "Exactly 76 sentences must be true".
...
If only sentence #99 was correct, this would mean: "Exactly 99 sentences on this page are false." or vice versa "Exactly 1 sentence on this page must be true (namely sentence #99 itself)
If only sentence #100 was correct, this would mean: "Exactly no sentence at all on that page can be true, because the sentence maintains "Exactly 100 are false"

Therefore only sentence #99 can be correct.

The riddle was somewhat confusing to myself, too, when I tried to explain it;):D.

, renee:).

-----

A sultan wanted to ride with his caravan of camels to the next desert city in order to trade precious goods there.
Just at the moment that he wanted to leave for his trip through the desert, a night-watchman urgently appealed to him to stay.

"Tonight I dreamed, that there will be a terrible sandstorm this day and my dreams very often come true. Better stay at home, please!"
The sultan stayed at home and later in the evening, indeed he got a report, that a terrible sandstorm had killed all men and animals of another caravan on their way through the desert.

If the sultan had ignored the night-watchman´s advice, he would have been killed, too.
Grateful as he was, he let the man come to him, thanked him and richly rewarded him. After that, he fired the man. Why?

Ok.I'll try.Here's the one.

There is an apple.
One bite,you find one worm.
Two bites,you find two worms.

So how many worms when you find that make you so scared?.

Can´t solve this one, unieno:), because I don´t understand the question:mecry:.

Does it mean

- how many worms will it take until you get scared?
- why do so many worms make you get scared?

???

but it´s a real apple to eat - not s.th. like the apple of my eye:D?
Confused:confused:

It's a kind of simple question plus funny.

It's a real apple that you can eat.
They're real worms that you don't wanna eat.

Let me try to explain and make you understand the subject.
It's only for anyone that hate worms.

how many worms will it take until you get scared?
It doesn't matter.

why do so many worms make you get scared?
I don't know,I guess it depends on that person.

Let you try again one more time.

Sorry:mecry: - I´ve still got a problem to understand the question, because the sentence is not complete.

There is an apple.
One bite, you find one worm.
Two bites, you find two worms. - all o.k. up to here, but
So how many worms _when you find that _make you so scared?.

So how many worms --- ??? --- when (until?) you find that --- ??? --- make you so scared?.
I need more information in order to understand what the question asks for.

Just imagine Bob Dylan´s "Blowing in the wind" written this way:
How many roads ... before you can call ... a man?;)

Could you please post a new more complete version of your question, unieno:)?
(Sorry - I apologize - I once was a highschool teacher:eek:. I lack common sense:lol:)

I should make question like this:
I hope I make it right.:thum:

suppose you hate all kind of worms.
One day you buy an apple and start eating it.
Take one bite, find one worm in that apple. You throw it away.
You're hungry,so you buy another one.Take a bite,what a
world....there are two worms in second apple.
Why god makes your life miserable?.You'll be hungry forever?
You change the store getting another apple.
You hope this time will be ok.
This apple looks good.Take a bite and start chewing, sudden you begin to panic and get scared when you look inside the apple.

So how many worms make you so scared?.

Next post I'll give the answer.

Now I understand the question better ((former) teachers always need a second explanation:D). It seems to be really funny - already had to laugh without an answer.

But typically - I have not the faintest idea:rolleyes:.
I think it´s not the correct solution, but I´d say: "All worms in an apple would make me scared."

"All worms in an apple would make me scared."
That's very simple,I guess.
When you see all the worms in front of you.You might feel disgusting by touching and smelling.
ฺBut the real scare is when you're chewing the apple and find out that there is only half of the worm in that apple. What about the other half.Where is it?
So how many worms make you so scared?.

The answer is "half of the worm"

I hope that is right answer...:thum::nana:

Good day all...:)
