Mr D.B. Lyudmirsky, Deputy Director-General of the OOO "Technopark "Skolkovo", visited Gousev during his working tour to Kaliningrad region, to acquaint himself with “The Area of Scientific and Technological Development - Technopolis Gousev” Project, its infrastructure of innovation and future development plans. A possibility of establishing of a "Technopark Skolkovo" R&D center at the "Technopolis Gousev" was discussed as a result of the visit.

Schedule of the tour initiated by the regional Government Agency of Communication and Mass Media included a visit to the Innovation Park at the Baltic Federal University, working meeting with the regional government and the visit to the "Technopolis Gousev" enterprises.

Technopark "Skolkovo" strives to establish in Russia a network of shared use centers, business incubators and spin off centers at the leading institutes of higher education as well as of scientific and technical development centers, observed Mr Lyudmirsky. During the working meeting the visitor were presented a report on "The investment prospects of Kaliningrad region in view of the future development of innovation cluster in the region."

Mr Lyudmirsky noted after the meeting that favorable conditions exist in Kaliningrad region for new business enterprises, also known as "startups", to start and develop. Such projects could be made ready at Skolkovo where a super modern R&D site is being developed. "Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University is ready to offer some interesting ready-to-go projects. So, lets bring their development team to Skolkovo for some "growing up", said Dmitry Lyudmirsky. Successful projects should relocate back to their respective regions, concluded deputy Director-General of the Technopark.

During the visit to the "Technopolis Gousev" Mr Dmitry Lyudmirsky took a tour of operating facilities, acquainted himself with the plans for development of a R&D and educational centre and a project for future business incubator and venture fund to provide support for innovation projects. The visit concluded with the suggestion that R&D centre of Technopark "Skolkovo" might be established based on the infrastructure of innovation at the "Technopolis Gousev", so that the Technopark projects could use the infrastructure for R&D. Both parties agreed to conduct further negotiations on the subject. A joint "Gousev-Skolkovo" business incubator, use of facilities of OAO “Digital Television Systems" RPA” and the Centre for Development and Production of Microelectronics "GS-Nanotech", which is currently under construction, to satisfy the demand OOO "Technopark "Skolkovo" residents for production facilities were also discussed.

GS-Nanotech" factory announced that the start of production is scheduled for the first quarter of 2012

Mr Andrey G. Tkachenko, the president of the General Satellite Corporation, delivered a report at the first Strategic Forum "Kalinigrad Region Future Development" on May 24, 2011. He described the "Technopolis Gousev" Project which started in Kaliningrad region in 2008 and went on to announce that the foundation stone of the fifth production facility at the Technopolis - the Center for R&D and Production of Microelectronics "GS-Nanotech"- has been laid.

The models of the new production facilities and residential areas at the Technopolis were on display in the lobby.

The president of the General Satellite Corporation Mr Andrey G. Tkachenko pointed out in his report that the strategic goal of the Project is to form a radio electronic industry cluster in Gousev, a new focus of innovative development of Russia.

Mr Tsukanov, the Governor of Kalinigrad Region, had the following to say to the Forum audience: "Today we start public debate on direction of the future development of Kalinigrad region. The "Technopolis Gousev" Project is the first active technopolis in the country which will help the region to reach a whole new level of development."

GS-Nanotech foundation laid

The foundation stone laying ceremony of the Centre for the Development and Production of Microelectronics "GS-Nanotech" took place in the town of Gousev, Kaliningrad region, on May 23, 2011, at “The Area of Scientific and Technological Development - Technopolis Gousev”.

The Governor of Kaliningrad region Mr N. Tsukanov, head of the district administration Mr G.M. Sylenko, the President of the General Satellite Corporation Mr A.G. Tkachenko and the CEO of GS-Nanotech Mr A.K. Malinin were present.

GS-Nanotech is the fifth production facility at the Gousev Technopark. The facility, which foundation stone were symbolically laid on May 23, 2011, will start production in the first quarter of 2012. More than 12 billion Russian Rubles is to be invested in all enterprises at the Technopolis up to 2015.

The Centre for the Development and Production of Microelectronics "GS-Nanotech" is to become the "technological core" of the "Technopolis Gousev", which has been operating in the region for three years now. The Governor observed: "It became a tradition to lay a stone for a new facility in Gousev district every year. I believe we will soon extend the tradition to the whole region."

The project provides for two economically and technologically interconnected structural units:

Unit 1 - 45nm multichip microprocessor PBGA and PQFN packaging facility (Packaging)
Unit 2 - Centre for the research and application of nanotechnology in new electronic components (Engineering and Research Centre)

The new production facility will allow for packaging and testing of memory nodules, such as flash-memory, static RAM and dynamic RAM, microprocessors (single- and multichip) and other electronic components (integrated microcircuits) in PBGA and PQFN packaging.

Volume:

Packaging: 10 mln units per years

Packaging parts and printed boards: 200 000 sq. m per year

The production facility will bring cutting edge technologies to the Russian Federation, allow training of specialists, forming of a new focus of innovative development of Russia and attract Russian and foreign investments in high-tech in Russia.

In his speech Mr Tsukanov, region Governor, pointed out that "development of the new industrial cluster - electronics, innovations, IT-technologies will help the region to reach a whole new level of development. All prerequisites have been met."

Educational and research center for microelectronics has the support of the leading Russian universities, which have a lot of experience in training specialists for science-consuming industries as well as in dealing with innovation enterprises, so that Technopolis residents will be able to train and retrain their core staff.
