you must use a crossover cable nullmodem and USB adapter

Openbox -> RS232 >----> USB -> Laptop

the repair, use a tool from the receiver Ariva

you need a real 9pin com port pc
usb to serial adapters may or may not work,it is hit or miss.
the loader MUST be v2.0.0c,nothing older or newer.

the rs232 isn't making contact with the receiver.You are going through too many adapters and the wiring is getting screwed up.The receiver only uses 3 wires; pin 2,3,5
you must know somebody with an old pc

it may cancel out the cable if it is a null adapter also.
you need a female to female null modem cable.
Most male/female cables were just an rs232 extension cable and are 1:1
If you have a meter pin 2 to 3 and 3 to 2
5 to 5
you can even make one from old 9pin serial mouse cables.2 cables mated together.
