Subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) leader has announced its second production in Brazil, slated for 2017.

The as yet unnamed Netflix Original will highlight the Lava Jato scandal, also known as Petrolao in Brazil, and will investigate money laundering in several businesses, especially around oil companies. The series will be filmed in 2016 and is directed by José Padilha, best known for Narcos, first LATAM-based series, and Tropa de Elite.

“Jose Padilha has the talent to transform reality into audiovisual narrative. Besides, he is just in the right spot to document this important moment of Brazil’s history,” said Eirk Barmack, international VP, original content, Netflix.

“The project intends to overview the federal investigation to unveil largest conspiracy and corruption case in Brazil ever. Impartiality is essential to face this series, and I have no doubts Netflix is the best partner for this project,” added Padilha.

Netflix is already producing its first Brazilian series, 3%, which is being filmed in Ultra HD and will premiere later this year.
