New technologies including 3DTV, TiVo and the new UPC Horizon box were among the most popular stories read on Broadband TV News during 2010.The launch of 3D services, such as Sky’s Easter launch to the UK pub trade and US sports network ESPN, often found themselves amongst the most read content. HD was also to play its part through the launch of the world’s first DVB-T2 services.

Two ongoing technology stories, the launch of Virgin Media’s TiVo box and what became known as UPC’s Horizon project also found favour, as individual details were released through investor calls and on the conference circuit. The interest is likely to continue over the next 12 months as both products enter the launch phase and other operators reveal their strategies.

The departure of two well known brands, Bravo and Music Choice, from the UK market offered some nostalgia. Music Choice was unable to reach a new carriage agreement with Sky, while the satcaster’s purchase of Bravo from Virgin Media TV, saw the former cable-only channel closed after 25 years.

For Zattoo and other internet rebroadcasters that included TV Catch-Up it was a legal challenge that kept them in the news.
