Well I am not sure that it will work with a DVI cable, probably you mean, a eSATA or internally, a SATA cable with the disk.
The other way m8 is to use an external USB HDD. I used to put my old's PC Baracuda Seageate 7200rpm 120Gb HDD and it worked just perfect. It's better to format it as EXT3 FS.
