Eutelsat Hot Bird 13C at position 5W

French satellite operator Eutelsat has re-parked one of its Eutelsat Hot Bird satellites to a new orbital position from where it can provide other services.
The Eutelsat Hot Bird 13C satellite was moved from the European orbital position of 13°E to a new position of 5°W. This comes after Eutelsat's new all-electric Hot Bird 13G satellite took over all programs and services. And the original satellite could find a new use.

Otherwise, the limited capacity Eutelsat 5 West B satellite operates at 5°W. This satellite serves mainly for the distribution of programs of the French Fransat platform and distribution multiplexes for terrestrial transmitters in Italy and France.

The Eutelsat Hot Bird 13C satellite was launched as Hot Bird 9 on 20 December 2008 by an Ariane 5 ECA launch vehicle. EADS Astrium was the supplier of the spacecraft.

Eutelsat Hot Bird 13C is equipped with a total of 64 transponders that can operate in the entire Ku frequency band (10.7 to 12.75 GHz) with bandwidths of 24, 33, 36, 47 and 50 MHz. The satellite replaced the Hot Bird 7A satellite in February 2009 at 13°E.

The Eutelsat Hot Bird 13C satellite has an expected life of at least 15 years, meaning it is nearing the end of its life. However, it may have enough fuel to service the next orbital position.

The 13°E position is currently served by both the new Eutelsat Hot Bird 13G satellite and the older Eutelsat Hot Bird 13B and Eutelsat Hot Bird 13E satellites, which will later be replaced by the new Eutelsat Hot Bird 13F satellite once technical testing is completed. in a temporary position are finished.

Eutelsat moved the satellite to a position of 12.5° West, where it will provide its services under the name of Eutelsat 12 West G. The mission of the former satellite will be the provision of transatlantic communications services. Entry into service from position 12.5° West is scheduled for the end of this month.
