Mobile data consumption grew by 76% in Venezuela last year, pushed by video and social network usage.

Over 16 million Venezuelans are online, 80% of whom connect via mobile devices, meaning more than the half of the country accesses the Internet on mobile screens, according to figures from the national statistics institute and the telecom authority, Conatel.

By the end of Q2 2015, there were 16.4 million Internet users, 13.29 million of whom subscribed to a mobile data package. “Mobile data traffic in the whole country is 13,659Tb as the demand grows intensely and consumption rockets - 76% during the last 12 months,” explained William Castillo, president, Conatel.

During recent years, Venezuela has seen an impressive growth in mobile data communications. As infrastructures get better - the 4G era kicked off a year ago - and devices become cheaper, Venezuelans are increasingly adopting mobile phones as their preferred device.
