Eutelsat's Eurobird flying over Horizon
by Sean Williams on Oct 6, 2010
Satellite giant Eutelsat has teamed up with Dubai-based Horizon Satellite Services for capacity on its EUROBIRD 4A satellites. The Paris-based operator will gain direct access to Tier-one internet backbones, enterprises and government procurement services in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, boosting satellite-based internet protocol (IP) services in the region.
"From the outset, Horizon Satellite Services selected Eutelsat satellites to provide Internet backbone connectivity for ISPs operating in the Middle East and Central Asia, including Afghanistan and Iraq", said Hisham A. Ansari, MD of Horizon. "We are excited by the prospects of Eutelsat's future Ka-Sat, W5A and W6A satellites so we can continue to respond to the tremendous demand for broadband connectivity in our principal target locations."
