DSR9500VIACI... no mention of 'A' ON front, only back

I have a DSR9500VIACI with loader 505, so i'll JTAG it, to get loader 501 (to run EMU).

My questions are:

On the BACK of this model it says 'Rev A', but the front it ONLY says DSR9500VIACI, no 'A'- letter.

1. Is this still the dreaded DSR9500AVIACI, that can't be changed with JTAG, even if the 'A' is not written on the front of the receiver?

I hope someone knows if this CAN still have JTAG done.

2. I've seen how the JTAG cable is made from files i've downloaded. As i'm completely new to this, can someone please tell me where both ends connect up to. Is the cable connected at both ends still INSIDE the receiver,on the main circuit board, or is one end connected EXTERNALLY to a pc?

thanks in advance,

1) loader 505 is patchable without problem (don't read back or front);
2) Jtag is a external connection between a pc and motherboard.

I now understand that the parallel end of the cable goes to pc.

I have two questions about this:-

My pc is quite new & ONLY has USB port connections.
1. Do i therefore need to get an additional cable to convert this parallel end to USB, or is there any other way of doing the JTAG cable for a USB connection?

2. Is the cable just used for changing the loader for the first time, or does it have to be connected up all the time, when using the receiver?

thanks, everything understod in the link you gave, but one last thing...

as i said, i ONLY have USB connections in my pc so i can't connect this parallel cable when i make one.

can i avoid making the JTAG cable & just use my USB-seriel rs232 converter cable instead, to change boot loader?
