DM800 wont flash

I got my new DM800 today and tried to load my preferred image but it didnt work.

Firstly I tried using Dreamup with serial cable as this worked ok with my DM500. It wouldnt connect to the dreambox when it was powered up after connecting the cable and loading Dreamup.

I then tried using the web interface by putting the box IP into Internet Explorer. It connected ok but there was only tv channels etc and no Upgrade Firmware option to load my nfi file.

Am I missing something obvious?

This is not the right sequence as you describe, first you connect the null modem gable, and not (serial cable) then you start the dream up you press connect on dream up and then you power up the dream box and you wait to connect with your box, and then you flash, it will take about 60 mints
To flash it with browser is not so easily if you haven Dan before

I followed the steps exactly as you describe but it does not detect the DM800 when it is restarted. It just continues to boot up.

I have been able to connect with DCC and DreamboxEdit so the IP and network are working ok.

If you use the browser method, do you have to connect any cables (other than the LAN cable from the router)?

I have found the Dreambox IP as described and put it in Internet Explorer but it does not come up with the page shown on the Dreammedia tutorial. It shows the Channel List from the Dreambox.
First take the power off by removing the power connector. Then press and hold in the power button. Replug the power connector into the Dreambox.Hold the powerbutton untill you see "stop" in the display. Now you can release the button. You will now see the IP-adress for the tuner in the display. Go now to and write this IP in the browser. Now you will come in to the Dreambox DM800 webinterface. Click firmwareupgrade. Browse for the nfi-file to install and click flash.

I have done all as you describe, but the Dreambox Webinterface does not have a firmwareupgrade item. It just shows the tv channels etc listed on the Dreambox.

Yes. I put it in my browser (Internet Explorer) and it opens the Webinterface. However there does not appear to be an panel to let me upgrade firmware.

its usually at the botom left of the web page firmware upgrade, you could also install barry allen in the image you now have installed then install an image on a usb stick.

The webinterface page only has headings such as tv channels, radio channels, remote control, about and help. It does not have a firmware update panel.

Then you have not done right with switching on.
1) unplug power cable from main socket
2) press power button and DO NOT REALEASE
3) plug in power cable [button still has to be pressed]
4) when you see IP address on display release button and open this addres by browser from PC

Hmmm I dont know,but..
Which dreamUP you used to flash yor box?
And have you a DHCP server in network, you should have a active DHCP.Activate on your router or install on your pc.That the box gets assigned.
I hope it helps you.If not sorry.

You are wrong.
There is two kind of Web Interface:
*Enigma2 Web Interface(this is what you are talking about)
*Dreambox DM800 Web Interface - firmware upgrade(this one you get when holding the power button pressed when put the power on again).

I`m not sure which version of Dreamup I was using. Which one is best for the DM800?

Is it better to flash only with the null modem cable or should I tick the network box as well?

yes use a null modem cable select com port untick network, do not turn the power on the unit until it says so, click on connect then it says now turn on power, at this time you switch the power on then it will give you the option to flash, be patient it can take up to 30 mins, an do not disconnect until its says flashed finished or complete.

the latest version of dream up says for all versions on the dream multimedia web site and is version 1.3.3.4

I will try that version tonight when I get home. I have also bought a new null modem cable in case the old one was dodgy.

I`m a bit further on but still not working.

I tried the new null modem cable and the latest Dreamup (v1.3.3.4) and it seemed to detect the box but displayed the message "is not a valid integer value". the box then froze until unplugged and restarted.

I tried the browser method again. Finally got the firmware update page by putting the IP into the browser when the box was in the "stop" mode (i had previously let the box boot up, that is why it displayed the Enigma2 web interface page).

However when I selected the nfi file and hit return the browser tried to send it for a minute or two before displaying the "cannot display webpage" screen. I assume that there should be a screen saying "update completed" or something?

yes it usually goes to 100% then you just push the power button on the front and it should reboot. after you have selected the image in the web browser click on flash and the screen changes and you can see the percentage of whats done so far on the screen it gets to 100% complete and then stops.

Success:banana:

I uploaded the latest Dreamup, removed DCHP from the box setup and applied a different Ip to the box. Removed the Lan cable and connected Dreamup without network connection. It was very slow but at least I am up and running now.

Just have to configure the rotor setup now:rolleyes:
