Williams: 'I thought my career was over'

Robbie Williams has revealed that poor sales of his last album left him thinking that his career was over.

The ex-Take That singer, who has enjoyed huge success as a solo artist after quitting the boyband in 1995, was criticised for his 2006 LP Rudebox, which only sold half a million copies.

"I thought it had all gone on its arse for me. Ever since being in Take That I've always had this thing, 'It's not going to last very long, lads, so we better enjoy it'," he told The Sun.

"When Rudebox happened, I was like, 'Well, it's over'. I went away and thought, 'That's it, I'm not a popstar anymore'."

However, Williams added that he is already pleased with the response to forthcoming new record Reality Killed The Video Star.

He said: "I've been quite overwhelmed by how well people have taken me back, and how the new album is being received. My manager said people would think I wasn't bothered about the stuff if I didn't promote it.

"So I changed my mind. It's time for me to start working again."
