I think there is a flash image and a usb image but no instructions for English users.

hi guys,
i know that this image is for the internal flash but isnt there any possinility to install this image as an usb image on mini or barry allen? there are two questions:
1.) is it possible to convert an .img image file to tar.gz?
2.) is it possible that a user who uses this image in flash can make a backup as an tar.gz file?
