Replacing the old, smaller DOM in AZbox HD old models...

Thanks all! I have it working now pretty good actually.
I dont know if I wrote it earlier but I have a AZBox Premium+ HD.

I have run babbas script to remove all unnecessary stuff and am running OpenSPA now, it is "ok" so far, ofc could be better.
I am not running any RAM cleaner since I didnt find any, and I guess that is for the best.
Running overclocking on 350mhz if I recall correctly, all good so far (winter temperatures here)
Have internal fan running all the time, which is noisy, will try to find quieter and more efficient suitable soon.
I am going to try Alonzo if I find a suitable version of the image.
Will also format DOM to ext4 then at the same time.
Is there a big increase in performance between ext3 and ext4 ?
I would order a ET10k immediately if I could, was about to last week but then came home with a hefty speeding ticket instead that was worth pretty much a 10k box... :(

Noise is making mostly by Azbox cover, if you take fan away from cover you will hear that it could be much better. You could also cut this "safety" part right next to fan.
About EXT - in my case my recording problems are gone when i start use ext4.

tg555 - I will open it up and see what I can doa bout the noisy fan, thanks for the info.
Recording is not a problem so I am gonna hold off with the ext4 now.

gorksi - up north where the welfare is "supposedly" good and expensive to pay for by the government, people tend to get hefty tickets.
also since I was going 33km/h above the limit :(

gorski, what images are u running in you XT and GB'?
do you haev any experience with USALS on these boxes?
is it easy to setup c-a-m-s and there are available software which works for them?
I'm really eyeing a XT10k now, what about the price of 450€ for 2 DVB-S2 tuners and one DVB-C/T, is it reasonable?

Thanks!

Nope! I bought mine for €300 with 2 x DVB-S2. Germany.

No experience about USALS, sorry.

PBNIGMA. Tried other E2s but...

I paid a fine in France, hehe...

Care to send a link from where you bought it? I might be able to order, 300€ is about 150€ cheaper than here, and that is with 1x DVB-S2 tuner.

PBNIGMA. Tried other E2s but...
but....What? What was the problem with others, say PLi and openatv etc?

My fine was in Finland, 440€! :'(

Somehow I think the PMs were suspended on this forum... Hmmm... See your visitor messages, although the answer is in one of my my previous message (distributor for Xtrend)...

I lived in Sweden. I know about prices up there...

PB is the best, in so many ways, albeit not perfect.

AZbug they left behid long ago (nasty people behind that project) and they made this image on my insistence only, hence not supported.... Btw, have you updated it?

ATV is way too big, disorganised, not having the quality tools PB has (Device Manager) etc. But I haven't tried the otherwise very tribal OpenSPA for a long time - they may have improved... ;)

Good luck!

I was thinking about Xtrend, so your running PB on Xtrend? And ATV is too big for Xtrend? Or are we talking AZboob now?
I am running OpenSPA on my AZ atm since I had some problem with PB, cant recall if it was cam related or what it was.
Which version exactly were u running on AZ that was good for u?
But PB is the way to go for Xtrend also? Im gonna look into getting one from DE now, since the 150+€ I save is more than worth the effort.
But then again my friend is trying to convince me that his VU+ 4K is the shiznits and he is running OpenPLi now with os c a m and all with great results.
Goddamnit I should get a sample of both and also a VU+ Duo2 so I can choose myself what works for my setup.
Never had USALS working on AZ either so I had to set all motor positions manually, which was a real pain and took like 5 days or something. Would be great is USALS worked like it says on the box, auto-magically.

Well, enuff ranting now from me, Im just pissed cuz Im broke and want a snappy and new box now with all satellites and c a ms in order :) :D

over n out

Thanks for now!

On Xtrend. Perfect! OpenATV is loaded, disorganised, full of unnecessary stuff etc. I.e. not as efficient, well thought through, with as good a set of tools as PB etc.

But I also ran it on AZ... but long ago. Gave AZ away, can't get my friend online to flash it anew with him...

I am running OpenSPA on my AZ atm since I had some problem with PB, cant recall if it was cam related or what it was.

I doubt very much that it was cam related... PB is among the very best, if not the best, when it comes to cams!

Which version exactly were u running on AZ that was good for u?

Long ago, can't remember. New age, new images...

But PB is the way to go for Xtrend also? Im gonna look into getting one from DE now, since the 150+€ I save is more than worth the effort.

Indeed.

But then again my friend is trying to convince me that his VU+ 4K is the shiznits and he is running OpenPLi now with os c a m and all with great results.

Deifferent people, different needs. Even the same person changes over time and one's needs change... So, not so straight-forward!

Goddamnit I should get a sample of both and also a VU+ Duo2 so I can choose myself what works for my setup.

If you can. But my money is on ET11, so future-proof. Lay low, wait a bit and have fun with your AZbug. It's OK for a while... ;)

Never had USALS working on AZ either so I had to set all motor positions manually, which was a real pain and took like 5 days or something. Would be great is USALS worked like it says on the box, auto-magically.

I don't see why not. Just get a good guide on the subject and don't cut corners. Make notes. Improve. Then write about it in detail here. Like I do... :D

EDIT:

How to motorise 25 satellite in USALS less then 60 seconds

This receiver is fully tuned and configured with 25 satellites/1500 channels, Do not change any setting.
After external installation completed ,Go to installation press ok then go to motorized press ok
Go to disequc motor use L/R arrow on the remote select USALS then go to position setting press ok
Go to antenna longitude press 000.5W for south of uk then go to antenna latitude punch 051.5N
press exit once then scrawl down to GOTO press ok, dish will start moving to your selected satellite Example:Hotbird
When one satellite is found then all selected satellites are full configured for motorized.
If signal quality is week , go to longitude add or deduct numbers example; 000.1/2/3/4 w or 000.1/2/3/4E
Each number you select go to GO TO and press ok until you achieve highest signal quality
Longitude/Latitude may vary in different area, but start using above instruction ,once you got the best signal then use your local coordinate setting .

How to Setup a Motorised USALS System

Press OK on installation. Press OK on the satellite setup . ok again on the satellite A list of satellite
names will appear. Select a satellite (e.g. Intel elsat707/Hotbird and more). Press
yellow button to save . Press Exit ,. Go to the motorised setting. Go to line 3 and << ****
and select usals then go to position Setting ,Press ok
Go to longitude (London’s longitude is 000.1 West). Then go to latitude (South of UK’s latitude is 515 North). Exit: Go to Save and press OK. Wait until the signal quality is more than 40% in the progress bar. If the signal quality is below 40%, then setting is incorrect and the longitude needs to be adjusted,
for example; 000.2/000.3/000.4 up to 9 (For each setting scrawl down to GOTO press ok ) until you achieve the best signal, After getting the best signal then punch your local coordinate setting. By this time, if you have not achieved this successfully, then the external installation need adjusting.

wow ok thanks again for all the info!
looks like I could take a chance and try out USALS on my AZboo also now, at least I can steer it to 1.0W if all else fails since 90% of the channels I (wife) watch are on that sat.

No hunch of when an 11k would surface?
I can still wait and play with AZ but I dont want to wait forever :)
Im getting more frustrated with AZ all the time since the streaming is not working properly to Kodi running Pi2/Pi3 around the house, which is said to work "flawlessly" on VU+'s..... :/
maybe have to chance it next salary...hmmm...

Change the OS! OpenELEC on Rpi2 works fine here...

If it works on Vu it must work on Rpi better!

I am running OpenELEC, just wrote Kodi since its "better known"

The thing is that there is a plugin for OE/Kodi for the PVR client function, and this is what Im trying to get to work, the problem is not on the RPi2/3 end, it is on the end that is sending the stream = AZbox for me atm.

Could you test setup the VU+/E2 PVR-plugin on your RPi and see how it runs with streaming from your Xtrend?
(it comes with all EPG and channel list imports etc so you can zap channels from inside OE/Kodi and it is really integrated and looks great, if it works)
This is the main reason atm for me getting a new box and since you seem to have all the makings to test this in practice it would be worth a lot to me :)
My azbox seems to hang after I switch channels one or two times and then it wont stream anymore... this is my main problem with AZboo

Yes and no :)
I ended up buying a new box and I am now fiddling with a broken STAB HH120 motor. The streaming works much better on the new faster box tho, seems that the new images for old AZbug are not that great but I had some luck with openspa and pbnigma, openatv was no good at all, same with openrsi.

I will update more when I get the whole setup running as I planned on from the git-go.

No, m8, 1GB is fine!

You must read this thread, my post no. 42 re. repartitioning on the DOM, once you install the image. Fabry's script will do it for you!
