the V1 atv4k doesnt support HLG, The V2 does but doesnt support hdr10+. V3 supports hdr10+ so if HDR is important then get the V3. Apple have a tendency to drop support on older hardware.

Still on the ATV....sheesh. I dislike iTunes and the whole oops I forgot to de register device. And being "in their pocket" with Apple only approved apps.
No Kodi. Not sure since abandoning them if you're able to even install apps not in their list.
I'm also wondering how many folks out there have a TV that is actually capable of displaying the impressive capabilities.
And, as mentioned in reviews of different video formats. Are you really able to see a difference?
Don't go Apple....

This is a very old story. It was true many years ago when few apps were available in the App Store.
Today you can find almost everything, and it is all so smooth compared to other devices.
Kodi??? No thanks! Bad, slow and heavy. So, GO APPLE!

if theirs a cheaper option then im in. I despise apple with a passion for there locked down approach but you cant fault the hardware. what else decodes 422? Theirs a massive difference between a blank screen and nice smooth watchable 1. The 422 glasto feeds are 30mit video and look way better than a blank screen and destroy the broadcasts.

It's all in personal preference. It started out as a "what receiver?" thread.
You got me wondering. 99% of my 'cube usage is for YouTube content.
I am running a Kodi Build. Kodi Xenon. Bad? Slow? Heavy? Perhaps some time ago on slower devices. I know it definitely is on my Fire TV Pendant and on the previous 'cube I traded in for the newest one. But the new 'cube really sings. It's fast.

If anyone had the option to purchase both Apple and Amazon devices to try. And return the one that didn't quite stack-up. It would be interesting to find who wins.

It had been some time since I actually used the 'cube with Kodi's PVR Enigma2 plugin. I did just a bit ago.
Kodi launches fast. Even for a build. Selecting the PVR. Note the "R". It opened fast and updated the entire satellite list from my OsMio4k that has every receivable satellite in C & Ku band from 127W to 37W. Didn't take long at all. The next launch was almost immediate.
I forgot. Oops! The receiver needs to be in standby mode. Just like as if you had another E2 receiver in client mode. To have full channel control and have the dish move.
4:2:2 channels came in nice and clear. Remember that "R"? Yep, they can be recorded.
The 'cube has a USB port. And an HDMI in port if you have a use for that.

Being a little rusty. Actually never having used the PVR recording function. I found that it actually records to the receiver's storage device.
I watched an Apple TV setup video on YouTube. I forgot that they have an internal power supply. Not cool if that gets a zap. Wall wart on the 'cube wins that.
Personal preference. I just hate not actually owning a product, and Apple is sure adamant that you don't with their products. And tilting my folding money pocket towards them just to use one? Folks who love Apple, love Apple. I am a never will own one, ever, person.
Did I make the right choice? Hope so, presented the options that I had. The 'cube certainly isn't a turd. If it were. Being the gadget freak I am. It wouldn't have lasted this long.
Again. I stress. Does a person's TV actually have the capabilities that one of these streamers capabilities exhibits? And could you justify spending 10X the cost of a new TV to benefit?
Which goes back to The Apple TV having a few better performance characteristics than the Fire TV Cube.
Not me, not now. I thought the Sony X930E I purchased a few years back would do. And so far. I'm a happy camper.
An external bluetooth keyboard and mouse makes life easier on either streamer.
Has anyone come up with an app for Apple stuff like Smart Tube? With no ads?

i bought the atv4k years ago it gets used 100% for 4:2:2 content and thats it and are cheap as chips used.. Played the recent Glasto 30mbit feeds like butter. For streaming a £25 firestick runs stremio just fine. Have no need for another device but will be interested to hear how others get on if they take the plunge. If ya want a jack of all trades then absolutely dont buy Apple.

Here it has already been said, the perfect combination is with Apple TV, it is not about brands or that you can get more out of it, whoever asked surely has already made their decision, the discussion about brands or equipment, was also good.
