ok, these linux based stbs do require a steep learning curve but hang on in there and you´ll be ok. the first thing you want to do is flash your qbox with one of the images in the "qbox images" section. that´s explained in the "how to" sticky. try to do it over the network. i´ve tried with just the null-modem cable and it didn´t work. actually updating the qbox can be a bit of a pain. you´ll also need the qbox updater program. i use version 1.0.8 and have had no problems with it. decide which image you want to use. some prefer the sifteam, i personally go for the q-active because all the needed emulators are included and they´re regularly updated (underworld, data.bin, etc). a useful program is dream control centre (dcc) which was written for dreamboxes but can equally be used for the qbox - change the ip address to that of your qbox and the password (qboxqbox). this can be used to update keys although with the sifteam image this might be possible from their server - i don´t know cos i´ve never tried their images. setting up the networking on the qbox is straight forward but i´ve found the wireless settings a bit hit-and-miss. with the correct image and keys/data bin loaded just experiment with the firmware until you´re comfortable with it. any specific questions, even broad ones, you can ask here but first you really have to give it a go yourself and then let us know your difficulties. these stbs are a challenge but the learning is somehow fun (and sometimes frustrating). in the end it´s worth the effort. good luck!

Great help

Thanks for this - I have made some progress and am using Q active - agree with your logic.

For some reason as yet the conax channels remain scrammbled though.

Would you recommend a different box or are they much of a muchness?

Anyway thanks for you help.

regarding the conax channels, the channels go down reasonably quickly so you´ll need to look out for the latest underworld emulator and data.bin files. Q-active usually release an image when a new underworld or data.bin file is available. they sometimes take a couple of days appear but they´re neat and many thanks to those who release them. i would recomend you stick with the qbox. it has more potential than a lot of boxes. however, at the moment it´s still in the early stages and not much is available. the diablo cam is certainly the best cam around and as the qbox has one built in it does seem to be the way to go if you´re not "c/s"ing.

having said all this i´m putting my qbox on hold. i wanted it to replace my tm1500 but i´ve found the tuner is really useless....
