Following a shareholder meeting today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on April 4, after obtaining medical advice.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said:

"We want Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi, and all those infected by Covid-19, to recover quickly.

In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, the government, the FA and the EFL to reassure everyone's health and the well-being of players, staff and fans. "

An unprecedented situation requires equally unique measures. English professional football will not be back on the field until 30 April. This is the outcome of the emergency meeting held today in conference call between the 20 Premier League clubs, called to discuss the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. A decision made in agreement with the Football Association, the English Football League and the women's top flight. It is still impossible to establish a date for the recovery, since the common goal is to start playing again when the health and safety conditions are restored. For this reason, the 2019/20 season will be extended for an indefinite time, which has never happened, providing for the Football Association's regulations that the championships must end by June 1st. This time, however, each tournament will determine its duration. The postponement of Euro 2020 means that leagues can review their calendars and ensure the integrity of their respective competitions. Even the Premier League, in drawing up potential scenarios and future strategies, starts from this, and from the belief that the health of players, staff and fans is at this moment the primary element on which to base the next steps.

The English Premier League are eyeing a resumption of the season on June 8, behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic, and reaching a climax on July 27, according to The Times.
The Premier League has 92 games remaining since it suspended the season on March 13 with Liverpool agonisingly close to their first ever EPL title.
The Times says Premier League bosses shared their idea 'Project Restart' with the shareholders last week.
The matches would be played behind closed doors - a maximum of 400 people would be permitted to attend including media though only if they tested negative for the virus - and at selected stadia to limit stretching the limited resources of the medical services.
Extra changing facilities would be introduced to ensure social distancing measures were in place whilst players would be required to turn up for training individually and already in their kit.
