Panasonic's new dawn for Plasma?

:nana:
The introduction of the base model PX80 range of Panasonic plasmas in the UK may not be a revolution in flat panel technology, but it is significant in that it raises the price/performance bar for plasma screens.

Having compared the Panasonic TH-42PX80 to the current flat screen TV benchmark, Pioneer's PDP-428XD, the Pioneer in our opinion is that little bit better in all areas; What is most significant about this comparison is that the Panasonic pushes the pioneer close in all areas, and for significantly less outlay. The TH-42PX80 can be sourced online for just over £700.

Although many consumers will still balk at shelling out £700 for a TV, the TH-42PX80 is in our opinion a significant move towards low cost high quality large screens, and the adoption of these screens by mainstream consumers.

The important element of the PX80's performance comes with a Standard Definition performance that is more or less comparable with your old CRT TV. Yes, fast sporting action might not quite be there yet with very slight 'motion blur' but given that these are large screens and remembering that the viewing distance is different to CRT, the performance difference has now become negligible.
