No dramas on Aussie TV? Just the opposite

Australia’s pay-TV sector increased drama investment by nearly half in the year to July 2007, with expenditure increasing from A$18.41 million (US$17.06 million) in 2005/06 to A$26.44 million over the following 12 months.

TV1’s Stupid, Stupid Man, now also screening on public service channel ABC1
Feature films the sector invested in included Romulus My Father, September and The King. Series included Lockie Leonard, Love My Way – Series 3 and Stupid, Stupid Man (pictured, left, and actually a comedy but still classified as “eligible drama”). There is no requirement that the production be broadcast on subscription TV.

The 17 drama channels that the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) reports on are: Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, Hallmark Channel, Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney, Fox 8, Fox Classics, Movie Extra, Movie Greats, Movie One, Nickelodeon, Showtime, Showtime Greats, TV1, SCI FI and UKTV.
