Portugal Telecom's PT Comunicaçôes has begun tests on Hispasat 1C satellite for its planned pay-TV offering, Meo.
Being tested are 33 DVB-S2 8PSK TV channels, which means not all digital receivers can get these signals. Special boxes under this standard will be needed.
Some of the channels are transmitting in the clear and others are already encrypted. A number of these channels are also part of existing Portuguese pay-TV operator TV Cabo.
Channels already being broadcast are RTP1 HD, RTP2 HD, RTP Africa, RTP Memoria, RTPN, RTP Madeira, RTP Açores, Eurosport, Eurosport News, National Geographic HD, National Geographic Wild, Canal de Historia, Cartoon Network, Canal Hollywood, TVC 2, E! Entertainment TV, National Geographic Music, C-Music, Al Jazeera International, BBC World, Blue Hustler and The Style Network.
