Hi,

I am trying to get my head around getting E2 on an Elite but lots of posts I see are very old.

I am trying to go from the Original Firmware to an E2 image.

I see references to doing so using Jazup but then I see posts saying don't use Jazup.
I see posts explaining how to load on E2 with AzUp but they seem to assume you already have an earlier E2 imagine installed.

What is the correct process, given the current tools and images, to load onto an Azbox HD with the original firmware?

Why don't you try, reading the "Readme" that comes with the latest AZUp 2.2.7 (I think).

If you are missing a component, this is where it goes: regsvr32 "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MSWINSCK.OCX"

You just start the AZUp, load the new E2 image and away you go, if memory serves...

But double check with older AZUp "Readmes", if you're in doubt!

You have similar subjects on this forum and elsewhere, just search. From memory, the problem always was how to get back to older kernel, not how to get a new one in...

Thanks for the answer.

The problem is that AZUp assumes you have Enigma on a box already. I don't.

You can go from original to Enigma using a USB stick and Jazup but that says don't use it anymore with newer kernels.

So do I use patch.bin from Jazup 2.6 on a usb stick and then use AZUp to load on a newer azbox enigma 2 image?

So, find the older AZUps and check, then do...

This is from a very old AZUp 1.2:

We have 3 situation :
I) You have Official FW in your AZBox and you want to install E2

I) You have Official FW in your AZBox andyou want to install E2
Switch off AZBox
Put usb stick with patch.bin (e2)
switch on AZBox
Follow messages on GUI for update official FW (standard procedure)
After about 1 min , your receiver will reboot
Dont remove USB Stick from AZBox !!!
wait for IP adress on VFD of AZBox
Start latest ver of AZUp
Write IP adress in AZUp (see VFD)
Click on button Update
AZUp check for resque mode, also check ver of patch.bin (E2 or official fw)
AZUp create cramfs, Create 3 partition on DOM and formatted them
Copyng E2 kernel in Flash (about 2.5 min)
Copyng E2 files in first DOM partition (about 1 min)
when get popup msg - remove usb stick and wait for reboot (Rebooting... msg on VFD)
New E2 is installed successfully

Not sure if it's all the same with 2.2.7. Check before you patch!

But I doubt anything changed a great deal...

Do tell...

Here, it's my old "How to"..

Note: you must find the suitable OfficialToEnigma2 patch.bin first, older E2 for AZbug is OK, so you can then simply update to the newer version of E2 easily, from your PC directly...

AZUp links from this forum I put in the lower part of the message.

Preparation

I’ll presume you have the official Opensat/Celrun FW in your AZBox HD and you want to install E2.

A) For each of my networked devices I reserve an IP address in my router. So, for your AZbug HD one should have something like: 192.168.x.x. This could be in router's --> Setup --> Network Settings --> Add DHCP Reservation --> DHCP Reservation List --> this should give you the address to work with. Write it down, just in case.

B) Download the latest E2 package and unpack it on your PC [right click --> 7-zip --> Extract here].

C) Install the latest AZUp programme to your PC [usually it’s included in the package].

D) Format a USB memory stick [FAT32] and copy the E2 patch.bin file on it - nothing else!

E) In case you want to go back to original FW, use FileZilla Client to drag & drop DISK2 & PLUGINS folders from AZbug HD to your PC. We call that the "BACK UP"... All your "precious" data will be saved: channel list and so on in DISK2 and all the "plug-ins", so restoring it all back to full functionality, as good or bad as it is with "original FW" will be a breeze!

For more details, regarding which files exactly to save, see my “Alternative Guide to AZbox HD”.

Put your AZ HD to Standby and switch it off at the back [the black power button].

Let’s put the E2 into AZbox HD!

1) Put the USB stick into AZbox HD and switch on your AZbox HD at the back.

2) Start the usual procedure as if it’s for official FW update.

3) First, the new Linux kernel will be programmed in. At the end of it, AZbox HD will reboot.

3a) Leave the USB Stick in AZ.

3b) Your AZbox HD display will show its IP address.

4) Start the AZUp and put the IP address in AZUp’s box with red numbers.

[see photo no. 1 in attachment...]

4a) Click on Update.

4b) One might have to reboot AZbox HD and restart AZUp, if it fails the first time.

4c) When AZUp starts the procedure successfully it will go on for quite a while, as it will be slow but thorough, while creating 3 partitions on the AZbox HD “hard disk” called “DOM” etc. etc.

5) When it is finished, there will be a little pop-up window with the message “Remove the USB memory stick and wait for reboot”. Click on OK and better hurry up to the AZ, to get the USB stick out, because it will reboot, as you will see on the AZ display, even if you do not remove it.

That should do it. E2 should start booting and you should see numbers increasing, all the way to 100 [%]. The fun [and frustrations – for now, until they sort it out properly] starts then…

However, sometimes there may be a glitch somewhere and you may have to be a bit patient, if “Geeko :p” message appears on the display, while you are waiting to see the rising numbers and “Ready…” message…

Don’t lose your nerve if it isn’t showing the "100" display status [= E2 booted successfully”] immediately. Sometimes it may take a little while but it will get there. At least most of the time!

Now, Serbo-Croat original, by the author of AZUp SW but you get the picture, using online translators, if you can't find the English "Readme":

Prelazak sa Oficijelnog (Celrun Firmware) softvera na Enigma 2

Info:

Potrebni alati i softver:

AZUp 2.2.7 (Full setup): http://www.sat-universe.com/showthread.php?t=241212&highlight=AZUp+2.2.7

http://www.sat-universe.com/showthread.php?t=242149&highlight=AZUp+2.2.7

OfficialToEnigma2.zip :

Open AZBox Enigma 2 (aktuelna verzija je Prerelease 8): http://www.openazbox.info (Po ovoj uputi možete instalirati bilo koju verziju Enigma 2 bilo kojeg Enigma 2 teama)

Upute:

4. Sada pokrenite AZUp 2.2.7 kojeg ste preuzeli i instalirali sa početka ove upute, te u polje IP adress of AZBox (see VFD) : unesite IP adresu koja se nalazi na displeju vašeg resivera.

Here it is (OfficialToEnigma2.zip):

Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/hashfo7qgiwwwb4/OfficialToEnigma2.zip

Once you get this in, then choose from the following E2s for AZbug HD:

OpenSPA 2.0.x

OpenATV/AAF

PBNIGMA

OpenRSI

Try not to use the latest kernel/drivers images but the version before that, for now...

Here is an older E2 image by The_Ripper (a complete package, they say - I haven't checked):

Hi,

Only checked back today, thanks for all the excellent info.

It will be the weekend before I can try it but I'll post updates once I have done so.

Thanks again.

Ok, so I followed all of the info here and it all worked brilliantly.

Once the box downloaded channel lists I was up and running in now time.

The only serious problem I can see so far is that the Scart output from the box doesn't work, only HDMI. Normally that wouldn't bother me but the HDMI output on my box is dodgy.

So thanks for all the help.

You're very welcome!

Try if the CEC (HDMI) is there and play with the settings...

Good luck!

I actually figured out that the scart problem is that the box doesn't set the resolution correctly when you set it to scart. If you set the output to 720p before you switch to scart it works fine.

You have to be careful what skin you have selected after that though, seems some can't run at lower resolutions.
