International television broadcaster Fox Channel will launch in Germany on May 19 as a pay-TV service on the satellite platform arenaSAT.

From May 20 the channel will also be available on the cable networks of Unitymedia (the parent company of arenaSAT) in regional states North-Rhine Westphalia and Hessen. Distribution via IPTV platforms on ADSL networks is also envisioned. Negotiations regarding carriage are currently taking place with all major German cable operators.

The channel, which has applied for a broadcasting licence from Berlin’s local media authority Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg, is backed by Fox International Channels, a subsidiary of Fox Entertainment Group, the pay-TV branch of Rupert Murdoch’s international media company News Corp.

“We are very pleased to be able to introduce Fox Channel in Germany. Our service is based on top international series, of which many will be available for the first time in German speaking countries,” said David Haslingden, CEO of Fox International Channels. “Fox is already internationally the preferred channel for series fans and we want to achieve this position also in Germany.”

After documentary channel National Geographic Channel, Fox Channel is the second TV station offered by Fox International Channels in Germany.
