Connecting to 900HD

Im having trouble communicating with the box via crossover cable. tried changing static ip and various usernames and passwords but no joy.

Can you point me in the right direction please?

ie username, password, port settings.( using SifTeam 7927)

You can set the IP address using your TV set and remote. I don't know the username / passwords for SifTeam images, for the official image they are 'root' and password 'ipbox'. BTW: perhaps you should invest in a cheap switch (8 port 10/100 switches can be had for under 20 euro nowadays), though a crosscable normally works fine too.

Thanks, Im pretty sure my username/pass are root/ipbox. Does the box need to be at a certain status, or just on? Also am I just giving my box any IP number and leaving everything else blank? Im missing something somewhere.

Any help to bail my sorry a$$ out would be greatly appreciated.

if using a router go into and check you using DHCP.
if using crossover cable you need to set box and pc manually

eg.

box- 192.168.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
pc- 192.168.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0

for pc goto network connections, local area conenection,, right click properties ip4 settings,, untick get ip automatically and set ip like above manually. and bobs your uncle
on box its under Menu>Advanced Setup> Ip Setup

Bazinshine's summary seems to be quite complete, just a few minor additions: yes, your box needs to be on, it needs to display some channel on it's front panel (so, past the 'booting' and 'start' phases).

They are settings that I swear I had tried before but obvoiusly I was doing something wrong.
