Good afternoon all

In peoples opinions, what is the best receiver for blind scanning at the moment? I will be using a 1.1m dish and I am looking for one that is relatively easy to use and that can blind scan quickly. I am told the Technomate M3 is perfect for what I want it for but wanted to ask on the forum for any other receivers I should consider as I understand the M3 is an older model. I'm not worried about picture quality so much, its mainly about less latency I am trying to achieve

Thank you

Daniel

If you want to be able to select the frequency range of your blind scan and avoid having a full band scan of the satellite then the Technomate TM-5402 (M3) is a decent option.
You could also consider an E2 receiver as they also have selection of blind scan frequency range. However, the E2 receivers are not as instantly user friendly as a TM-5402.

Apart from the blind scanning you way also want to consider the ease of input for any biss keys that can be used on some feeds. The TM-5402 is easy to use for entry of biss keys, the E2 receivers are slightly more involved, needing something like oscam to be installed and possibly a key adder plugin to assist key entry.

The is no noticable latency between a TM-5402 (M3) and an E2 receiver that would impact on betfair trading, human reaction time is slower than any percieved latency.

Another alternative would be the Chinese boxes that do auto roll of feed biss keys, they can sometimes automatically get the biss keys online without intervention from the user. The downside to these receivers is that they have no blind scan frequency range selection that can be efficiently utilised.

I think I will go with the recommended M3, the user friendliness will be better for me until I become more experienced.

Thanks moonbase

SD quality is shocking on the M3 compared to other Technomate receivers if you are going to use for normal viewing as well, also there is no support for TM5402 M3, last support was 2016

Hi @manic01

Thanks for your replies, appreciate all the help I can get.

I wont be using it for normal viewing so not too much of an issue. I was wondering about the support. I read on another thread that it stopped a while back. Tbh I'm going to be new to using satellite so it may only be a short term solution until I become more experienced, also I will be moving house in around 2 years so I will probably go with a bigger dish/set up then. Also need to see what happens with BISS 2 etc

Thanks

Daniel

For your use where latency is the main factor I do not think the lack of support for the TM-5402 (M3) will be an issue.
It will continue to provide HD and SD pictures and use any biss keys that are entered into it.
It cannot provide 4K pictures, nor can it provide DVB-S2X or 4:2:2 video format pictures. Please note that 4:2:2 video content is used sometimes for feeds, not the majority but certainly some.

For any 4:2:2 content, to get smooth video without latency you need to use either a DVB card in a PC or a commercial grade receiver such as an Ericsson RX8200 with HD 4:2:2 licensing enabled.
The GTMedia Combo receiver which is consumer grade can provide pictures from 4:2:2 feeds. However the pictures are not of a suitable quality for betfair trading, they can suffer lag and judder.

Nothing will happen with biss2, it requires an approved receiver that is registered in the EBU database per feed.
In practical terms, for a consumer grade end user it is uncrackable and will remain so.

Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it.

The M3 seems to be a good fit for me, and I think to handle the 4:2:2 I will go with a DVB card in a spare clean PC I have. Would you have any recommendations for the best (lowest latency) DVB card please?

Thanks

Daniel

TBS 6903 is a decent dual input Pro grade card.
TBS 6902 is a decent dual input grade card.

Read up on the specs and decide which is best.
I would think the cheaper TBS 6902 card will be OK for your needs.

The latency when decoding 4:2:2 video is also impacted by the PC specification and PC graphics card.
You can check the CPU and PC resource usage when decoding 4:2:2 compared to non 4:2:2, it jumps quite a bit if using a two bob PC with a gimp CPU and graphics card.

Thank you so much for your great advice.

I guess the main difference in spec for what I want (personal trading use) is if I want to blind scan on the PC. Are the blindscan softwares for PC any good, if so what is the best one?

Effectively would I be turning a PC into a satellite decoder? And if so would it be better for giving me the fastest pictures with less latency, and maybe not bother with the M3? Or should I have both?

I have one of 2 PC's I could use, both have recently been wiped so not clogged up. Maybe if they both have to work with 2 monitors each I should use PC1 for the DVB card do you think?

1) Windows 10, Intel i7 9700, 32GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, PCIe
2) Windows 10, Intel i5 7400, 8GB RAM, Intel (R) HD Graphics 630, PCIe

Sorry for all the questions lol

Thanks again

Daniel

The 1st PC is the better spec.
The latency level differences between a DVB card and a TM-5402 for non 4:2:2 are negligible.
Blind scanning software for a PC that are often used are CrazyScan or EBSPro, both Windows apps.

Before you start spending what could be a decent amount on equipment and installation fees are you sure that there will be benefit for trading?
There are courtsiders at most sports and there is no easy money anymore from satellite feeds.
Those days are generally long gone, unless you stumble across a feed that hardly anybody else has got.

If you think that satellite feeds are gonna be a golden nugget you might be dissapointed.
You can probably churn out a small regular weekly profit but the days of streets paved with gold have given way to a barren wasteland of liquidity inhabited by grinders and drone men with fast IP pictures.

Thanks again for the help. I was thinking PC 1 would probably be best for the DVB card, makes total sense.

I agree the easy money days are gone now, and have been for a while but my main aim here is not to be ahead, its to not be too much behind. For the strategies I use shaving off 1 or maybe 2 seconds on what I currently use now will benefit me.

I think the markets will probably die out in the coming years, I'm just trying to eek out a little bit more while I can!

Hello everyone !!

I was doing research about (personal trading) and after i read your comments i feel lucky i got that info and i have to say thank you !!

I would like to ask a couple of questions without bothering you. I have a 1.2m motorized dish, but i'm using an Edision Piccollo S2+T2/C which i got a couple of years ago for normal use and i think that's why i'm kinda struggling with the latency. Should i switch to a TM-5402 or any other receiver you recommend because i'm located in Albania and sometimes we have problems with shipping here ? Would it make a considerable difference ? Does the receiver indicate a lot on latency ?

I'm also gonna order a DVB Card for the 4:2:2 as my pc stats are kinda decent i'd say ( Ryzen 5 5600x 6-core, 32gb DDR4, RTX 3060 ). Is TBS 6903 Pro the best choice ? of course without going to commertial grade receivers.

Thanks again for all this information you have shared and sorry for asking maybe too much !!

Hi mate TBS 6903 would be the best option. From my experience in personal trading I find success in specific sports and specific feeds. Have you guys had any success? Happy to share my experiences.

TBS did not serve its customers. They did not respond to me. Users of TBS products. I spoke with customer service and technical support to resolve the issue with the 6504 satellite card due to no blind scan. I had a 6522 card with the same specifications that supports blind scanning using the EBS PRO program, and this card was able to work. The company is able to solve the problem and they say that the balls do not support blind search. This point unfortunately is a business scam. They try customers to buy other products and say that they support blind search, and there is evidence for this statement.

Usually none of DVB-S2-X cards supports blindscan.

The older ones or the new models that support blindscan usually rely on specific extra IC which supports this feature

6903 has hardware integrated IC specific for blindscan as Daniel6791 already mentioned above it works and the for me too cause i got the same card so i personally have tested it.

the card you refer 6522 its functionality is a combo card specialized for other purposes
