Belgian cable dips under 4 million subs
cablebelgiumlogo.jpgFor the first time in 16 years, Belgian cable operators have seen their subscriber numbers fall. According to figures from Cable Belgium at the end of 2007 there were 3.85 million households connected, a loss of 46,000 or 1.2% compared with the previous year.
In 2005 cable reached the 4 million homes mark, now it has slipped down. Competition from other platforms is the main reason, with IPTV provider Belgacom TV now racking up 305,000 homes, an increase of 166,000 in 12 months. Last year, a DTH platform also appeared on the scene, TV Vlaanderen, with more than 50,000 subscribers.
