Here you are, mate:

It’s got an LG Tuner with 400Mb memory.
Less than 1 second switching between channels.
The back panel bears Ethernet LAN 10/100 Mbps which can be set up so easily, USB 2.0, eSATA port and HDMI connections fully equipped for software, emulator and any future upgrades .
Brilliant picture quality with colour adjustments for brightness, contrast and colour.
An imbedded blind search which gives fast and thorough search and indeed picks up all the weak channels.
2 Cam slots and 1 CONAX Card reader.
I find the menu user-friendly and quite simple to navigate.
254 satellite programmable with simultaneous Multi Search
DiSEqC 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 (USALS).
It has Video format in 4:3, 16:9 and letterbox, Zoom & Pause and Recall function which stores an incredible last 20 selected channels or radio stations.
You can search for channels alphabetically using the Find function with a very fast channel search.
Program timer, Sleep timer function and Parental Controls easily programmed
8 favourite lists for channels and radio stations: film, news, sports, music, children, drama, family with the usual Delete, Rename, Edit and Move.
Factory settings, Backup & Restore available and the ability to update the software via USB or RS-232 (PC to STB, STB to STB)
Menu has amongst many other options, has a selectable menu animation: Stripe, spray, Slide or Fade, no less than 24 languages, 6 Games, Calendar, Calculator, Automatic NTSC / PAL detection to name but a few.
Volume can be adjusted for each individual channel .
Power switch on / off at the rear, 2 Scart (TV / VCR) sockets, 2 RCA audio output (R / L), 1 RCA video output, Component output (YUV - YPbPr), eSATA port and HDMI connections.

There will also be a software soon which will enable many other feature such as the Sata drive, the Conax CI slot and many other things which are left as a surprise.
And the support is excellent !!!

Octagon SF918 new user 1st install success so far

My success and experience so far with Octagon SF918

A. Search, reading through Internet, partly printed, user manual read
(my saying: reading educates). HW/SW levels read and recorded on paper.

B. via menu Octagon 918 / remote control
Sat parameters set (DiseqC-Switch, 2x LNB - 13° und 19,2°)
Channel search
Now I know, that the box is in working order.

C. via RX232/laplink, OctagonSoftTool v1.01 USB deu.exe
Did some minor changes as a test, saved as UserDatabaseX2.UDB (proved
to be useful later on as described below)

D. via USB/FAQ_v1.2_918hd.pdf:

1. OCTAGON_HD_SF918_EMU_AU_PVR_eSATA_V10259__05_01_09_HDTV.bin loaded
did not ask for a password for factory reset!
all channels were lost
according to FAQ_v1.2_918hd.pdf all four data to be set to "Yes"
according to 718-818-908-918_FAQ_FD.pdf: System Data should be
set to YES, all other to be set to NO
So far no problem, as I have saved my *.UDB data as described above (C.).

2. UserDatabaseX2.UDB loaded (from "C:")
all channels available again

3. RB_Octagon_SFx18USB_SoftCam_03032009.kdb loaded
(what for ? don't know really)

4. RB_Octagon_SFx18USB_Biss_CW_Keyfile.Key loaded
(what for ? don't know really)

5. EMU switched on
My favorite Channels OR FSD and me are enlighted

6. Praying my thanks in the evening, I'm going to include all you great
people who helped by providing information, which they gained themself
spending their time. To be serious, many many thanks to you for all your effort.
Most help provided the FAQ docu, as it gives also an overview and helps
to sort out all the stuff found.

Info:

STB Information is emty now, before all the updating I had information
there as follows:

Last Update: 12/31/08
Software: RYEC102,58
Hardware: SC4-A
Loader: B001d

further seen/thoughts
no testimage
colours somewhat pour, adjustments not satisfactorily
Sharpness of the picture is very excellent, as far as I see it with an old analog-TV (576i)
LNB Voltage of 13/18V sufficient, despite 50m (fifty Meter) coax from dish to receiver, and
an inline apmlifier plus an LNB switch 2:1 at the dish are also fed by this voltage.

Up to now I have not looked into several items like
Media playback via USB
Network possibilities via Ethernet
eSata connection
HDMI connection

For me, so far, is this a success a nice day to you all Hubi
