Just found out it does.

Not sure how I would view 4.2.2 on it though.
Mind you, until I finish installing my new satellite equipment, I can't even try. Too windy today to be handing a large dish whilst up a ladder. :D

You can try without dish. I'm assuming that your tv can pls videos from USB device?

If it can and I'm guessing it can I can PM you 4:2:2 video so you can do the test.

Is ok,thank you
Some feeds in my area are 4:2:2 h264,so eventually I will have time to test.
I doubt this profile can be done since none of the enigma 2 receivers have the necessary hardware, and thinking on doing it through software would require power that this boxes do not have.
Is worth a shot,as per others it should do 4:2:2 h264 ok,so this one I will try.

Here are two .ts files recorded from the sat in 4:2:2.
Place them on USB flash drive, plug it in the TV and play using built-in media player of the TV.
That way you can test if TV is capable of showing 4:2:2.

Good to know before buying an expensive TV.

HD 4:2:2 sample > link
4K UHD 4:2:2 sample > link

Files will be on the free upload server for 21 days so make sure you download them before they are deleted.
And no, there is no virus in the .ts files, so if your anti-virus goes screaming, just disable it for this download.
If you don't trust me, I don't care and won't be re-uploading files on mega.nz or somewhere else where the registration is required.

can any one explain to me why we do this

You cannot watch 4:2:2 channels with any receiver in the market today.
Most people using Enigma 2 receivers can watch it by streaming from any E2 receiver to the PC,and play it with VLC.

This Kodi plugin would allow people with E2 receivers to watch this 4:2:2 channels in the receiver, without the need to stream to PC.

I was confused first too,but this would make the receiver to be able to do what no receiver can do.

couple questions
Given the TV is able to play and render 4:2:2/4 files through USB,and even capable to render them through HDMI,the problem I see is I know of no device that can deliver 4:2:2/4 through HDMI.
I mean I an mot sure a receiver delivers any of this profiles in HDMI out.(how can this be tested? can you see a 4:2:2 feed in TV from a receiver that cannot render it? but they do it through the network,of course)
The way I see it,it delivers 4:2:0 chroma to the TV,being this HD'or 4K,so i find a problem here.
Now ,does any video card deliver this higher chroma profiles through HDMI? (and if this is true, then it could simply render this profiles on the PC without trascoding) or the PC does the trascoding to normal HD to deliver to the TV? (which is what they normally do.
How are we suppose to send the signal to the TV in this high profiles, without trascoding?
I do not see a way, unless you could install a SAT tuner app in the TV to handle an external sat card, then tune and render it natively.

If video card delivers 4:2:2 then I guess you wouldn't see anything on the screen because your monitor screen can't display 4:2:2.

So my guess is that PC does transcoding from 4:2:2 to 4:2:0.

I have tried both of these files via a usb port and neither would play.

So far we have the following solutions to view 4:2:2 video:

  • STBs that can do transcoding of 4:2:2 into 4:2:0,
  • streaming of 4:2:2 video from STB into PC and playing with VLC, MPC-HC, etc.
  • PC DVB-S2 cards and playing with VLC, MPC-HC, etc.
But, there is one more thing that is totally forgotten...

The TV :)

New generation TVs are capable of showing 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 vids.
Yes, they are.

Not all, but quite many of them.

Here is a list of Sony TVs: link.
Pay attention on the way TV needs to be connected in order to show 4:2:2 and 4:4:4.

And here are the other TVs that can do 4:2:2 and 4:4:4: link.
Pay attention that table of tested TVs can be enlarged by clicking underneath on the button "SHOW MORE (15/84)".
Make sure that TV is marked with "Yes" to support 4:4:4, otherwise you won't see 4:2:2 on it.

If TV supports 4:4:4 it doesn't mean that it supports 4:2:2 also. At RTings (link you provided) they tested tv's for 4:4:4 not 4:2:2.

Good Afternoon,
I've seen there were two 4:2:2 issue thread opened and it was a nonsense to continue the same discussion on both ones.
So some posts have been moved here from other thread relative to more specific 4:2:2 procedure on openbox.

But please don't chat too much about the same known issue and read older posts before posting.
Many posts in this discussion are unnecessary

Thanks

I'm not really sure but my guess is that something like this should be enough:

https://www.amazon.com/HDR-HDMI-Cable-6ft-Compatible/dp/B073R8M49G

It's important that bandwith of the cable is 18 Gbps. And this one claimes that it is.

EDIT: But my wild guess is that you for sure have scanned 422 feeds before and that you have tried to see what will happen if you try to play them on your tv. And you get what we all get, just sound no picture. Am I right?

Maybe in the future you can try different HDMI output. But I think that won't work either cuz receiver has to be capable of delivering 422 through HDMI.

Latest version is currently 2.1.

I have ordered a cable as I am not confident that any of my cables are 2.1.

It will arrive next week, I will then try playing it from my VU Ultimo 4K's hard drive.

Fingers crossed that your dish will be up and set until cable arrives so you can do proper testing.
