Better than nothing
...Do you know if the encoded HD MBC channels on 26E will clear with an FS sub, even if we could get the signal in the UK?
I will check later today or tomorrow, subject to reception on a half decent size dish.
Nice info @moonbase you must have a dish the size of jodrell bank in your back garden.
What dish size was it?Not really, all I do is to take time to get dishes mounted correctly, use decent quality cabling and have adjustment scope on them to get fine adjustment for Azimuth and Elevation.
Also bear in mind that the southern part of the UK is more favourable for reception of some of these beams.
The dish I used to take those screen shots has resolution adjustment of around 0.06 degrees on Azimuth and around 0.02 degrees on Elevation. It allows for accurate fine tuning on the hard to get satellites.
A v-box with a 36V motor will probably get you reasonably close to those levels on Azimuth as it generally gets to about 0.08 to 0.09 degrees resolution with 11 to 12 clicks per degree.
To be honest though, a 0.1 degree variance on Azimuth often only amounts to fractions of a dB. However, in some cases, a couple of tenths of a dB gets you over the line for a signal lock.

I'm in Channel Islands, and get MBC on 26°e without any issues with a 1.1m dish.
SNR 66-72% this morning at 730am clear skies.

Also, the nearer you are to water and coastline also helps to improve the signal.
It shows how much the signal level improves the more south you get.

Another poster explained this to me. Something to do with the vast surface area
of the sea and not being in a densely populated area with trees and other obstructions.
So thus far....signal reception on 26E is possible with a 2m dish in Yorkshire and a 1.1m dish in the Channel Islands.I'm in Channel Islands, and get MBC on 26°e without any issues with a 1.1m dish.

Nothing is ever linear, but I wonder then if it's possible to get 26E signals with a 1.4m/1.5m/1.6m dish in the London/South East/Hertfordshire area?
Ahhh Moonbase, I likely got a little confused and thought another poster based in Yorkshire had used a 2m dishWho has a 2.0m dish in Yorkshire?
I have a 2.0m dish and am located in Surrey.
It depends on which satellite from the cluster at 26E is being scanned, there are four Badr satellites.
Badr 4 is an very easy catch for a 1.5m dish here in Surrey, I have a 1.5m and it gets Badr 4 no problem.
Anyone who cannot lock frequencies from Badr 4 with a 1.4m dish in the London/South East/Hertfordshire area should give up the game.
Badr 7 is a bitch, I have never locked a signal from it yet and I have blasted it with some serious ordanance.
Badr 5 and Badr 6 are OK here in Surrey but it depends which frequencies, some are lockable, others are not.

My mistake my friend.
Well, maybe if Barney reads this thread he might try a quick test and point his dish at 26E just to seeBarney in Ireland has a 2.0m dish but I think he is too far North and West to get reasonable reception?
