Dear Friends,

I am interested in getting decent signals from a few Eastern satellites and I am based in southern England.

Can anyone advise on the minimum dish size for the following satellites, particularly
if in each case the LNB is centred on that satellite....

23.5 E
31.5 E
36.0 E
39.0 E
42.0 E
45.0 E
46.0 E

Any advice and information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It depends on the footprint beam per satellite.

For example, 36.0E on the Eurasian beam is receivable in the UK on a small dish. However, the African and Russian beams require much larger dishes.
Same logic for 31.5E, you can easily get the High Power beam in the UK but not much chance of anything from the Wide beam.

Thanks Moonbase.

What minimum dish size would you go for to pick up the wide, Russian and African beams?

there is pretty much nothing of any interest whatsoever that appears for me on this satellite .

39E will be fine on a small dish pretty much all signals are easy to lock
quite a decent amount of Bulgarian which has Eng audio options .

Thanks Barney. Here is what we are planning to do for someone with restricted sightlines.

1. Use a 1.0m dish with a multi-bracket of 3 or 4 LNBs.
2. Thought is to centre the dish on 31.5E, then have an LNB each for 23.5E, 28.2E, 36.0E and 39.0E.
3. They will be getting a FS capable receiver, hence the interest in what is on 36E and 39E.
4. We checked Lyngsat/KingOfSat and think that 36 and 39 offer lots of options for FS capable receiver,
but we won't know what works until we install and check.
5. We would install more than one dish if that was possible, but we want to avoid potential issues with
neighbours, etc.

Interesting that 36E does not have much worth watching even though!

Stick it on a motor

Remind them they are restricted to only just a few satellites ,
23.5E has good mix , 28E Freesat only can be guaranteed ,
31.5E , 36E really offers next to nothing .
39E Bulgarian Channels Sport a lot of it is in Bulgarian Audio
and 42E has not much just a bunch of Turk Speaking FTA Channels and Few Premium channels but nothing special .
it'd be better to get those Sats + 19E,16E,13E,1W and 30W where they'd find so much bigger choice
and without question end up a sight cheaper to install and just have 1 single cable not depending on a Disecq Switch which you already know will be no end of phone calls complaining it does not work right etc..

With the Russian beam from 36.0E I would agree there is probably nothing worth watching that has enjoyable content. In addition some of the frequencies are circular polarity requiring some type of polariser for maximum reception. It is the hobbyist dx men who are interested in the Russian beam from 36.0E, just to see what they can catch from it, they are not fussed about content, they like the wavy lines on the spectrum.

With respect to the African beams, there are several Supersport (South Africa) multi channel muxes on 36.0E and it is now supposedly clearing on the Forever Server with the VIP package. I have not yet tested this to confirm it. However, most of the useful stuff will probably be available elsewhere on far easier to get satellites.

@kippysat
I think these beams are way beyond the scope of your planned installation, you need to be using a 2.0 metre or larger dish to achieve a decent amount of success from a southern UK location.
Dont get put off though, you should have plenty to watch from the other satellites once you are setup. Good luck with your install.

Hello Friends,
Thanks for the replies and appreciate all the information and suggestions.

So just to update you. The job is restricted. There are trees and buildings blocking signal reception from
all satellites looking right to left 60W to 16E (Includes 1W, 13E, etc). There is a small possibility of a signal
from 19.2E.

The unobstructed sightline is from right to left 23.5E to 55.0E. A motor would have been the optimal solution.
They don't want one, so we "gives the peoples what they want" so to speak.

There could definitely be trouble brewing with reliability and disecq switches, etc, but hopefully if we get the
install right the callouts should be minimal if at all.

Would love to get them the Africa signals/beams, but we are unlikely to install anything larger than a 1.25 gibbo.
I discussed the larger dish options, cost and complexity. I also explained that the larger dishes need to be securely
attached and installed to withstand extreme wind. The larger the dish the larger the "sail".

One of the complexities of this job is that they want it installed in their garden with no structure to attach T & K
brackets etc. I am currently consulting with an engineer on what to erect in the garden that will house the dish.
We can't simply put a few bricks, concrete and small pole in the ground at a low level as the neighbours fence
is well over 6ft+ high including gravel boards.

We told them that we need to get the dish at least 4m+ high above ground to get the signal reception needed.
Hence, we are now racking our brains about the cheapest structurally sound and secure construction option that
could house a dish, and can be done under permitted development, thus not requiring planning permission.

Also, before you suggest it, there is no building that they can mount the dish on. It's a unique job.

Here in Belgium on my 110 dish I use 6 Quad LNB for 45°E - 42°E- 39°E - 33°E -28°E - 23.5°E
4 Diseqc 16 in / 1 out for 4 TVs
4 Multistream receivers Edision Mio (+) 4K, Mini 4K & Nino Pro Full HD 1080i
I have 15 Quad LNBs on 4 multifeed dishes.

6 LNB on 1 dish
